As we begin Black History Month, AWHONN is proud to celebrate Black leaders and trailblazers in healthcare. We would especially like to honor the rich legacy of Black nurses who have made such a powerful impact on the health of our nation through their contributions in settings ranging from community to government and everywhere in between. We are excited to lift up the work of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History® (ASALH); the founders of Black History Month, as we partner with them to amplify this year’s theme of “Black Health and Wellness.”
In alignment with our mission to empower and support nurses caring for women, newborns, and their families, and in keeping with this year’s focus, we are happy to share information and resources from both ASALH and AWHONN to assist you in your educational journey. We look forward to joining you on a path toward greater understanding and awareness of the many aspects of Black Health and Wellness.

AWHONN Resources for Respectful Maternal Care
AWHONN’s Commitment
AWHONN is committed to being an antiracist organization that works to reverse the racial inequity that has contributed to disparities in health outcomes. We are on a journey to better understand the role our actions have played in the creation of these disparities, as well, so that we may acknowledge them and chart an actionable path forward. A necessary part of that process is listening for understanding and education. As we continue in this effort, we invite you to join us.
