Washington, DC , June 27, 2016 – The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) today announced a new content relationship with GNOSIS for OB.  Developed by Advanced Practice Strategies (APS), GNOSIS for OB is an online learning platform that helps nurses and other clinicians measure knowledge and improve proficiencies related to the care of women and newborns. The educational content currently focuses on the highest risk areas in obstetrics including fetal assessment and monitoring; shoulder dystocia; obstetrical hemorrhage; and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

As part of the new relationship, AWHONN is reviewing and validating course curriculum developed by Advanced Practice Strategies. A team of AWHONN nurse experts is providing content to be included in the upcoming releases of each GNOSIS for OB course noted above during the summer and fall.

“With both of our organizations dedicated to building the best OB teams, the relationship between AWHONN and GNOSIS for OB is a natural next step,” said John Harrington, GNOSIS founder and chief mission officer at APS. “AWHONN’s expertise in promoting the health of women and newborns combined with the innovation in GNOSIS education and analytics will benefit nurses in health systems across the nation.”

Through its unique adult learning methodology, GNOSIS for OB combines comprehensive assessments with evidence-based learning to maximize clinician engagement. Designed for nurses, physicians, and midwives, GNOSIS technology uses its patented algorithm to generate a “personalized learning path” based on individual assessment analytics. This prioritized curriculum, which focuses on the material the clinician has not yet mastered, is delivered in 2-8 minute “content snacks” that are accessible online at any time. Individual and team analytics are also used by healthcare leaders to identify and address areas of risk with a goal of improving patient safety.  Through the relationship with AWHONN, it will now be possible to incorporate AWHONN education such as the live fetal monitoring courses into personalized learning paths.

“In an effort to provide the best care to women and newborns, AWHONN has educated thousands of nurses and other clinicians,” said AWHONN’s CEO, Lynn Erdman, MN, RN, FAAN. “AWHONN’s relationship with GNOSIS for OB will allow us to provide even more best-in-class education in our specialty in a truly forward thinking and impressive platform.”
