Indiana Nurse Receives Writing Award from Nursing Research Journal
Azza H. Ahmed Accepts Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing Award
The Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), the research journal of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), has awarded Azza H. Ahmed, DNSc, RN, IBCLC, CPNP, with the Best of JOGNN Award for her article entitled, “The Effect of Interactive Web-Based Monitoring on Breastfeeding Exclusivity, Intensity, and Duration in Healthy, Term Infants After Hospital Discharge.” The award will be presented by journal editor Nancy Lowe, CNM, PhD, FACNM, FAAN, at the annual convention of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), in June in New Orleans, LA.
The Best of JOGNN Award honors the first author of an original article published in JOGNN. Articles are nominated by the editors, and the winner is chosen by the members of the JOGNN Editorial Advisory Board. Criteria for the award include the originality of the work; the clarity and scholarliness of the writing; the potential for the article to significantly affect the care of women, infants, and/or childbearing families; and the interdisciplinary importance of the work.
Dr. Ahmed has been involved in neonatal nursing practice, education, and research for more than 30 years and has contributed to more than twenty-six publications and more than thirty presentations across the United States and Australia. She is currently an associate professor in the School of Nursing at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, and is a funded researcher in the area of breastfeeding monitoring and outcomes. She previously practiced as a clinical instructor and lecturer at Cairo University in Egypt.
“Dr. Ahmed’s contributions to facilitating long-term breastfeeding are exceptional,” said JOGNN Editor Nancy K. Lowe, PhD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN. “With her vast experience in the field, she understands the critical need for utilizing electronic support systems to enhance breastfeeding success.”
Dr. Ahmed earned her Doctor of Nursing Science Degree from Cairo University. She is an international board certified lactation consultant, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and an active member of the International Lactation Consultant Association.
