The need for diapers in low-income or poor families is constantly on the rise. In fact, according to the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), one in three families in the United States is affected by not having enough diapers to keep their babies and toddlers clean, dry and healthy. More than 5.2 million children living in low-income households are at risk for serious skin irritations and infections, due to families resorting to reusing diapers.
Nurses have long been working to address this critical health issue within the nation. For the fifth year in a row, the nurses of AWHONN are kicking off the 2019 Diaper Drive to collect diapers for families in need. This year, our goal to collect and provide more than 350,000 diapers to families in need.
Since 2015, AWHONN nurses have collected and shared more than 1 million diapers with families-in-need in their local communities. Our members are the largest group of healthcare providers combating diaper need in the U.S. in partnership with diaper maker Huggies (TM) and the non-profit National Diaper Bank Network.
