Washington, DC –The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)—the mother/baby nurses who provide in-hospital care for birthing families—is partnering with Huggies® Brand ® to get vital parent education regarding common signs that signal a postpartum mom may need to get additional healthcare after birthing into the hands of Family Dollar store shoppers this April.
AWHONN’s POST BIRTH Warning Signs lists the complications that may emerge in the first 12 months after birthing. Through a simple postcard distributed at point of sale in 3,000 Family Dollar stores, women are encouraged to watch for these signs and get the recommended care (call your pregnancy care provide, call for an ambulance, or go directly to the hospital).
AWHONN is sharing this life-saving information in advance of Mother’s Day in May with the hopes that women will receive this information and act on any of the major post-birth warning signs if they have given birth in the past 12 months. Signs include:
- Pain in your chest
- Obstructed breathing or shortness of breath
- Seizures
- Thoughts of hurting yourself or your baby
- Bleeding that is soaking through one pad/hour, or blood clots the size of an egg or bigger
The nurses of AWHONN encourage individuals to share the POST BIRTH Warning Signs with their friends and family members to build a community of support for safe recovery from birth.
