Washington, DC – The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) announced today that Ashley Rainey, MSN, RNC-OB, IAP, has stepped down from the organization’s board of directors, effective December 24, 2023, to focus on academic and occupational commitments.

“I truly believe in and support the work AWHONN does, and I’m saddened to have to step down from my board position,” said Rainey. “I relied on my faith to help me make this difficult decision and I take comfort in the words of Jeremiah 29:11, ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

“On behalf of AWHONN’s Board of Directors, executive team, and staff, I am deeply grateful for Ashley’s dedicated service. We completely understand and respect her thoughtful decision. Ashley’s contributions to AWHONN have been invaluable and her insights, expertise, and unwavering support have had a significant impact on our work. We will truly miss her presence on the Board,” said 2023 Past President Shakira Henderson, PhD, DNP, MS, MPH, EMBA, RNC-NIC, IBCLC.

The vacancy opened by Rainey’s departure will be filled by a vote by the Board of Directors from the 2023 slate of qualified nominees in the coming months.
