The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) has released Knowledge to Action: Care Equity for Black Moms, a video resource designed to help change provider attitudes and behaviors in clinical practice toward pregnant women of color.
“Maternal mortality and morbidity disproportionately effect Black, Indigenous and People of Color populations and we as a country need to make health equity a priority – a change that starts with our health care providers. This video and AWHONN’s POST-BIRTH Warning Signs work together to give providers insight into their own bias and tools to overcome it,” said Kathleen Hale, MS, RN, NE-BC, Interim CEO of AWHONN.
The production of this video was supported by a grant to AWHONN from Merck, through Merck for Mothers, the company’s global initiative to help create a world where no woman has to die while giving life. Merck for Mothers is known as MSD for Mothers outside the United States and Canada. The video is part of AHWONN’s larger efforts to overcome inequities in healthcare.
