The AWHONN strategic planning process includes the designation of advisory panels that serve to provide the Board of Directors with expert advice for new initiatives. The Board of Directors in June approved the call for applications for the following advisory panel which are charged with the completion of the following objectives:

2011 Nominating Committee - Applications Now Being Accepted
(Develops Board Slate for 2011 Elections, 2012-2013 Board Term)
The Nominating Committee identifies and interviews prospective candidates for the board and recommends a slate to the board. Committee members should have a wide network, be familiar with leadership qualities essential for governing an association and have interviewing experience. The committee meets once face-to-face and several times by conference call.

2011 Finance Committee - Applications Now Being Accepted
This national committee supports the board and staff on a wide range of financial matters including operating budgets, long term financial planning and financial implications of financial planning. The committee meets once face-to-face in October and occasionally by conference call. Committee members should have experience with budgeting and financial planning. Comprises 2 board members and 2 members-at-large.

2011 Public Policy Committee
- Applications Now Being Accepted
This national committee supports the board and staff in developing AWHONN federal public policy priorities, as well as the action plans behind them. The committee meets via phone once per month, and face-to-face at least once per year, usually in conjunction with the Leadership Conference or the annual convention. Committee members are eligible to serve two 1-year terms and should have experience with legislative, advocacy or policy issues.

2011 Annual Convention Host Committee - Apply Today! Deadline October 15, 2010
This committee serves onsite throughout the convention as a resource for local area activity, greeters and problem solvers. The committee works with staff to identify potential sponsorships from local companies. The committee provides support to the charity booth as needed with donations and staffing at the convention if one is held during the host committee convention term. The host committee members have 1 day-long mandatory meeting held in February 2011 at the convention site.

2012 Annual Convention Program Committee - Closed for 2010
Washington, DC
This committee develops the program and selects speakers within priorities developed by the board of directors. The committee will meet once in the site city, Washington, DC, during a weekend in late September 2010 or early October, exact date to be announced; and monthly by conference call thereafter. Attendance at the fall meeting is mandatory.

Co-led by a volunteer-staff team, the committee is 6 members including the Host Committee Chair. Committee members should have a broad network; be knowledgeable of clinical practice, research and education trends and issues; possess time management, program planning and organizing skills; and a history of attendance of at least 1 AWHONN annual convention prior to application. The Program Chair attends the convention in the year preceding her/his term.

Specifically the Program Committee:
  • Writes learner objectives based on the theme and goal of the program, plans the program design, and selects speakers and topics for pre-convention and convention sessions.
  • Reviews and scores responses to calls for voluntary speakers and innovative program abstracts.
  • Serves on site throughout the convention providing assistance to attendees, moderating sessions as well as problem solving and troubleshooting session or speaker related issues.

The following positions will be available for the 2011 AWHONN Board of Directors: president-elect, 3 regional directors Region II (AR, CO, KS, NE, ND, NM, MO, OK, SD, TX, WY, Manitoba, Saskatchewan); Region III (IL, IN, IO, MI, MN, WI, Ontario); Region IV (DE, MD OH, PA VA (includes DC), WV), and 1 at-large director. Regional designations are used only to determine the geographical residency of the candidate and do not denote regional representation.

Directors serve 2 years with the opportunity to run for a second 2-year term. The president-elect serves as president-elect in 2011, president in 2012, and chair of the Nominating Committee in 2013.

The Board is responsible for:

  • Assuring effective leadership and sound management
  • Establishing strategic direction
  • Overseeing business required to carry out the mission and goals of the association
  • Setting core program and fiscal function
  • Appointing panels and committees.

The following sections will hold elections for section chair and section secretary/treasurer in 2011 for the 2012—2013 term: AF, CA, DE, FL, IL, IN, KY, MO, MT, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NV, OK, OR, SC, TX, VT, WY, WI

Responsible for leadership, membership and program development activities, the Section Chair leads the Section Coordinating Team comprised of elected and appointed section and chapter leaders and the Section Secretary Treasurer manages the fiscal responsibilities for the section.
